the band recorded all the songs live, overdubbing the vocals later, most of the songs were done in 2 or 3 takes, as a band of mirth and little patience, the 9 or 10 passes at "i was a swashbuckler" were especially grueling. the preppy fakebook was like this: we'd write a song and take a polaroid of it. maybe the film was old and discolored, or the song blinked when you took its picture or it's a little blurry because billy had the shakes and couldn't hold the camera still. you get the picture.
